Adult/Dislocated Worker Program Coordinator Leigh Caldwell-Dunning reports on her customer. “When I first met with William in February 2019, he had a 6-month gap in his work history, and had been fired from his first job. He was basic skills deficient and had a vision-related disability. In addition, William had little training and lacked the soft skills needed to succeed in a job,” Leigh explains.

“Through WIOA funded assistance provided by Man-Tra-Con Corporation, William was able to enroll in a Work Experience Program (WEP) at Black Diamond RV. The goal was to help him learn the soft skills and work ethic he needed to succeed. I helped William with resume preparation and mock interviewing. I also had regular conversations with William during his work experience job, reminding him of the importance of working hard, being punctual, and showing initiative. His WEP work-site supervisor also worked with him on these important soft skills. William also received transportation assistance through WIOA services,” Leigh adds.

“In July 2019, William was hired on full-time at Black Diamond RV for a Detailer and General Helper position where he is currently earning $10.00 per hour. He cleans recreational vehicles and other vehicles taken in on trade, cleans up around the lot and buildings. He also assists the dealership in other ways, as assigned,” Leigh reports.

William has this to say about the assistance he received from Man-Tra-Con, “I learned how to get a job, but more importantly, I learned how to keep one.”
