Peighton

Career Specialist Michelle Sanchez reports on her customer. “Peighton, a single mother of an 11-month old child, had been working full time at Southern Illinois Hospital in Carbondale for nearly 4 years when she came to Man-Tra-Con for assistance. She had been earning about $10 per hour as a lactation consultant while attending college classes full time. Peighton was seeking WIOA training assistance for the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program she was pursuing at Rend Lake College (RLC) in Ina, Illinois. Peighton received assistance with tuition as an “out-of-district” resident of Williamson County,” Michelle explains.

“Peighton had completed a semester of classes at RLC, but her classes would not transfer over to John A. Logan College (JALC) — the community college in her district. Furthermore, Peighton was required to test to get into the Practical Nursing program at JALC first, and then test again in order to get accepted into the ADN program at JALC. Instead, Peighton decided to test and enroll directly into the fall 2016 semester ADN program at Rend Lake College. She was also eligible to receive WIOA training assistance for the spring 2017 semester at RLC,” Michelle adds.

“Peighton successfully completed her program at Rend Lake College in Spring 2018, and began working as a registered nurse for Southern Illinois Hospital in Carbondale. Her wages more than doubled and she enjoys her new career in a familiar field,” Michelle reports.
