Career Specialist Dana Marlow reports on her customer. “Ashleigh, a single mother of four boys, first came to Man-Tra-Con for assistance in August 2019. Ashleigh had worked as a Phlebotomist for Heartland Regional Medical Center in the past. Although she had a job, Ashleigh still struggled to support her family and wanted to train for a better paying position,” Dana explains.

“Since  Ashleigh had experience doing lab work, she wanted to continue in that field. In August 2019, she enrolled in the MLT program at John A. Logan College with the goal of becoming a Medical Lab Technician,” Dana adds.

“Ashleigh received Pell and MAP grants to help pay for her training. In addition, Man-Tra-Con was able to help Ashleigh pay for tuition, fees, mileage reimbursement, books and supplies,” Dana reports.

“Ashleigh earned high grades throughout her training and completed the MLT program in May of 2021. One month later, Heartland Regional Medical Center hired Ashleigh as a Medical Lab Technician, where she is currently working 36 hours per week and earning $20.75 per hour,” Dana adds.

“As a Medical Lab Technician, Ashleigh’s job duties include drawing labs for patients that are hospitalized. She loves working with the public and helping people. Ashleigh is so grateful for the support she received from Man-Tra-Con. The assistance helped her return to school and find a job where she can earn enough to support her family,” Dana says.”
