Career Specialist Amy Blocker reports on her customer. “In November 2018, Caroline came to us as a single mother of 2 children. She did not have the skills to obtain a self-sufficient job, she needed training to obtain full-time employment. Caroline was WIOA eligible for training assistance to attend the Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography Certification Program at John A. Logan College (JALC). WIOA funds helped Caroline pay for tuition, books, supplies, child care costs, plus provided reimbursement for her mileage, traveling to and from classes,” Amy explains.

“In January 2019, Caroline enrolled in the Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography Certification Program at JALC, and completed her course work in December of that same year. After completing the coursework, Caroline took and passed the Certification exam, receiving her Certification in February 2020. (The exam had been postponed due to the Covid 19 pandemic),” Amy adds.

“Caroline is very thankful for the training services we were able to provide. As a result of her coursework, SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon hired Caroline for a Cardiac Diagnostic Sonography position. She started on November 5, 2020, and is currently working 40 hours per week, earning $25.52 per hour. Caroline feels truly blessed,” Amy exclaims!

Caroline says, “I enjoy working at Good Samaritan Hospital. Thank you all for the help in getting me through school. It has been a true blessing, I could not have accomplished this without your services.”
