Career Specialist Michelle Sanchez reports on her customer, “Thomas had previously worked in the coal industry, but knew layoffs were coming. He decided to leave his job, and was faced with the challenge of finding employment in a new field. When Thomas visited Man-Tra-Con in October 2017, he had been unemployed for three months. Thomas had been skilled in a declining industry and quickly realized he needed new training for a growing field,” Michelle explains.
“With a job offer but no credential, Thomas decided to enroll in the Truck Driver Training program at Rend Lake College in Ina, Illinois. He completed the course and received his license in February 2018. A few weeks later, Staff Quick hired Thomas for a truck driver position that was right in his town! On March 15, 2018, He began work earning $12.00 per hour. Thomas is happy to be back at work and also loves the fact that he is working close to home, has a steady paycheck, and a safe job. Thomas plans to retire in his new field,” Michelle adds.
