The recent closures of Maytag/Whirlpool and Technicolor Universal Media Services facilities have sparked an overwhelming response from Southern Illinoisans wishing to volunteer their time to assist affected displaced workers and their families. Man-Tra-Con Corporation has attempted to provide an avenue for organizing many interested community members desires through pairing volunteers with our customers. Through the Volunteer Corps program, no-cost services and resources are provided by local community members to families struggling with issues brought on by layoffs, lack of education, and workforce instability. The mission of this program allows volunteers to assist with tasks or participate in situations so training and career-related obstacles for the adults and children impacted by these major dislocation events in southern Illinois are effectively tackled.
 
The Volunteer Corps is comprised of two key service groups: mentors and volunteers. Mentors are volunteers who create and maintain an on-going relationship with one or more customers. They offer general guidance for the customers in matters pertaining to job search, training, and overall transitional adjustments following layoff. Volunteers may assist customers with a specific task or provide direction... whether it be one occurrence or on a regular basis.
