Career Specialist Autumn Basler reports on her customer. “Jason Naas had been unemployed for 6 years when he came to Man-Tra-Con seeking assistance. He was enrolled in the EPIC program through the Department of Human Services, receiving SNAP benefits, and living in subsidized housing. In addition to assistance from EPIC, Jason was also eligible for WIOA services to help him with training and job search,” Autumn explains.

“When I first met with Jason in January 2018, he had several barriers to employment. A loner with minimal social skills, Jason was also suffering from depression and anxiety. In addition, he did not have access to transportation. Through EPIC and WIOA funding, we were able to help Jason pay for his rent, phone, car repairs, and training,” Autumn adds.

“In May 2017, Jason was dual enrolled in Computer Forensics and Cyber Security/Information Assurance Associate Degree programs at John A. Logan College in Carterville, Illinois. He graduated from both programs with honors in May 2019,” Autumn reports.

“After graduation, I helped Jason develop a resume, practice interviewing skills, and assisted him with job search. In July 2019, Jason found employment as an IT Engineer at Talbert House in Cincinnati, Ohio, working 40-hours per week, and earning $16.25 per hour.

On a follow-up call several months later, Jason reports that he enjoys helping others at his new job. He loves no longer having to depend on his mom for money and is currently earning $19.00 per hour at Talbert House. Jason says, “I couldn’t have done any of this without you! Thanks for everything you’ve done!”
