Career Specialist Michelle Sanchez reports on her customer. “When Robert met with me in January 2017, he had been “laid off” from his previous employer due to lack of work. After 3 months of unemployment, Robert felt he needed additional assistance with finding full-time, permanent employment where he could earn about the same or more than his previous job,” Michelle explains.

“Robert decided to enroll in the Truck Driver Training program at Rend Lake College in Ina, Illinois. Beginning with the February 2018 class, he received assistance with tuition, fees, and mileage from Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funded services. By March, Robert had successfully completed the program and attained his CDL license. By the end of that same month, Robert began working as a truck driver for Southern Illinois Motor Express, earning $18.00 per hour.” Michelle adds.

“Robert loves his job. He especially enjoys driving 5 or 6 times per day to St. Louis, being able to come home every night, and getting two consecutive days off. He also shared that Southern Illinois Motor Express is a tremendous company to work for and he’s been referring others to work there as well,” Michelle says.
