Michelle Sanchez reports on her customer, “Theresa was “laid off” from Health Care Service Corporation after nearly 16 years of employment, working as an insurance claims processor. In June 2017, she had been receiving unemployment benefits when she came to Man-Tra-Con seeking assistance. She was eligible to receive WIOA Training Assistance and wanted to begin vocational retraining as soon as possible. Originally, she planned to pursue a degree in Health Information Technology, but her unemployment benefits were only going to last for 26 weeks. She decided to work towards getting a certificate in Medical Coding instead. It was a much shorter program and her pre-requisites from the summer 2017 semester would transfer over to the new program,” Michelle explains.

“Theresa successfully completed her program at RLC and received her Medical Coding certificate in May 2018. Because of the coursework she previously completed, Theresa had been able to work at SSM Good Samaritan Hospital since February 2018. Theresa had only been able to earn $14.22 per hour at her former job with Health Care Service Corporation. Now, using her newly acquired credential, Theresa is currently earning $15.46 per hour working as a Patient Account Representative,” Michelle reports.
